It was theorized that principals lack the appropriate level of knowledge to be able to successfully make sound decisions for students that were identified as having disabilities. A quantitative study was conducted to analyze school administrators' level of knowledge as it pertained to special education procedural safeguards and educational services. The research study answered 10 research questions along with hypotheses to determine if principals had the appropriate knowledge needed to address issues in their schools about special education law. Demographic questions were also asked in order to determine if factors such as school size, school level, highest degree earned, years of service, and sources used to obtain information about special education were factors as to how much the participant knew. A total of 186 school administrators (principals and assistant principals) were asked to answer a total of 30 questions using SurveyMonkey.com. The setting for this research study took place in one school district within a southeastern region that provides services for any or all special education placements including Other Health Impaired (OHI), Specific Leaning Disabilities (SLD), Serious Emotional Disturbed (SED), Intellectual Disability (ID), Hearing Impairment, Speech or Language Impairment, Visual Impairment (VI), Orthopedic Impairment, Autism (AU), Traumatic Brain Injury, and Deaf-Blindness. Participants had to be currently serving in grades kindergarten through twelfth for the 2013-2014 school year as a principal or assistant principal. Research first implies there was a significant difference in school administrators' knowledge of special education law in regards to procedural safeguards amongst administrators of schools that differed in school size. Secondly, the research revealed there were significant differences in school administrators' knowledge of special education law in regard to provisions of educational services among administrators of a school that differed in school size. Last the research implied that there were significant differences in school administrators' knowledge of special education law in regards to procedural safeguards amongst administrators of schools that differed in school level. As a result of this research, more professional development or training could be geared towards administrators that are working in smaller school settings.
