Thesis (M.S.Ed.)--University of Kansas, 2009.
There is currently a lack of research regarding the sport of fencing and its community. This survey worked towards filling that gap and to determine the satisfaction level and perception of complexity by the sport's participants. A survey was sent nationally targeting the entire membership of the United States Fencing Association. 7.6% of the membership responded to the survey, representing athletes, coaches, parents, administrators, and referees. Results showed that the fencing community is generally satisfied with the current status of the sport and that they do not find it too complex. Despite this general positive news, there are some major concerns regarding public relations, media coverage, and the consistency of officiating and instruction.
